Meili YE - Chief Executive Officer answers our questions:
1/ Can you tell us about the main innovation you are presenting at this year's Vinitech-Sifel 2024 and how it fits in with your traditional expertise ?

Our amphoras for ageing/fermenting wine are handmade from natural, high-quality clay. The finished product is leak-free, naturally eliminates impurities and allows for more uniform micro-oxygenation, giving the wines a stable colour, freshness on the palate and very pronounced fruit and floral aromas. The amphoras can be used for several decades, even hundreds of years, making them environmentally friendly and long-lasting.

2/ Why is this innovation crucial for the wine industry?

With global warming, the oak trees used to make the barrels are getting younger and younger. Our amphoras for ageing/fermentation, thanks to their long life, their ability to cool naturally and to simulate the effects of barrel ageing thanks to the addition of oak planks, are a container to guarantee the sustainable development of wine. Their cultural value, artisanal appearance, appropriate oxygenation rate and biodegradability make them ideal containers.

3/ What were the main challenges you encountered in developing this innovation?
The contradictions and clashes between the traditional mentality of barrel ageing and the new approach of ageing in amphorae.
